Kshetram is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu located in Tuticorin,
Tamil Nadu.

Significance – This is one of the sacred lands
where the chastity of Goddess Sita, Rishi Patni and Savitri were illustrated.

The legend has that Sage Lomasa’s disciple witnessed
a fisherman died of snake bite.
Instantly, there appeared the servants of Lord Vishnu to take him the
abode of Lord Sriman Narayana. Later,
the disciple approached Sage Lomasa with various qualms in his mind and got
cleared from his Master. Sage Lomasa
explained the entire occurrences to his disciple. The King of Vidharbha ruled this city had a virtuous
son. He performed various good deeds
during his life time, unfortunately he fell into the evil association and he was
propelled to hell after his death. After spending years in hell, he had born as
fisherman on this sacred land for the sins committed in his previous life. Further, Sage Lomasa explained that whoever
dies on this sacred land would go to the Abode of Lord with their devoutness
earned.
Another legend has that a pious Brahmin Vedvith
lived an upright life. He dutifully
served his parents, he had great devotion and respect towards Guru and elders, and
he performed rituals prescribed in the Sastra and Puranas. The most pleased Lord instructed Vedvith to
undergo austerities in this sacred land Varagunamangai. Vedvith followed the divine instruction with
utmost faith and devotion; he attained the blessings of Lord and attained
Salvation in this holy land.
This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 11.00PM
in the morning and 4.30PM to 7.30PM in the evenings.
